3 cops arrested for looting over Rs 5 Lakh from UP businessman in Kanpur

As per the allegations by the victim, three policemen, of which two were dressed in civil dress stopped and searched the victim while he was passing by the Sachendi area. After the search, when they recovered a sum of more than Rs 5,00,000, they threatened the victim and started hitting him.

 Against the backdrop of three cops allegedly threatening and looting a businessman after stopping him on the road in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur on Wednesday, UP police has again come under the radar of the opposition. The three policemen looted Rs 5,03,000 from the victim.

The incident took place in the Sachendi area of Kanpur. The victim is said to be a businessman, who is a resident of Kanpur’s Dehat district. He reportedly has a hardware business.

As per the allegations by the victim, three policemen, of which two were in civil dress stopped and searched the victim while he was passing by the Sachendi area. After the search, when they recovered a lumpsum amount, they threatened the victim and started hitting him.

The policemen said to have urged on saying that the money was acquired from means of gambling and that they snatched the entire amount from him. Apart from this, they also threatened the victim by stating that if he had told about this incident to anyone, the cops would arrest him and send the victim to prison.

The following day when the victim reported the incident to the Sachendi Police Station, the station in charge got the case investigated. When the case was found authentic, the senior officers were informed and Kanpur Police Commissioner BP Jogdand suspended all the three cops and ordered their arrest.

Accused Sub-inspector Yatish Kumar, sub-inspector Rohit Kumar and head constable Abdul Rafe will be produced in the court on February 24 and were sent to jail.

DCP Vijay Dhul said, “Taking cognisance of the matter, the three policemen have been suspended and at the same time further action is being taken by taking them into custody after registering a case.”
